Given the magnitude of the epidemic in 2014, the WHO has accepted August 12 conditional use of experimental treatments for patients with disease Ebola63 virus. This could be locally presented as a blank check given to all kinds of traditional or simply misleading and medications can be dangerous. In Nigeria, there was a rumor during the summer of 2014 by the massive consumption of turmeric, salt and brine means to protect themselves from the disease Ebola64 virus, causing the death of several people poisoned by excessive consumption sel65 and leading the FDA and WHO août66 14 15 août67 to issue warnings against fraudulent treatments and dangerous superstition.
Following approval by WHO of the use of experimental treatments in the context of the epidemic of 201,468, the Minister of Health of Nigeria, Onyebuchi Chukwu, announced Aug. 15 arrival in the country of treatment called Nano Silver on which little information had filtered, except that it was developed by a Nigerian scientist whose identity remained confidentielle69. According to Dr. Simon Agwale, Nigerian expert in infectious diseases, the treatment would have been effective against viruses, bacteria and parasites69. Following the warning from the FDA against the use of such produits70 the fédérales71 authorities and state of the Lagos72 declared non-compliant for medical use, the Nano Silver is promptly removed from the market nigérian73.
In the rest of West Africa also unfounded rumors circulated, eg Togo, whereby wash with lemon in salt water protect the virus74, while in Burkina Faso crooks trying take advantage of the gullibility of users to extract their money against the promise of a miracle treatment "under the patronage of the Minister of Canadian health Rona Ambrose." 75
