Linkedin & Why Long Island Advertising Agencies May Recommend Original Content

By Rob Sutter

If there's one thing that can be said about entertainment, specifically on the Internet, it's that original content reigns supreme. For anyone that needs further proof of this, all you have to do is look at LinkedIn, which has been said to acquire its own original video content in the future. To say that this is newsworthy, to say the least, as most people know LinkedIn to be a social network for professionals. This content push has the attention of Long Island advertising agencies across the board, and understandably so.

At the Information Subscriber's Summit in San Francisco, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner said that the social media network is open to new, original video content on its platform. He mentioned that shows that were similar to "Shark Tank," which is on ABC, could do very well on LinkedIn given the content of said program and what LinkedIn's user base desires. This is just one example, but it certainly lends itself to a number of opportunities.

It's easy to see why this news would garner attention, but it's not like LinkedIn hasn't used video content before. In August, users on this social media network were allowed to record and post videos on their own feeds. Video is perhaps the most engaging form of content in the world, so it would make sense for LinkedIn to bring this feature to the forefront. One could make the argument, then, that the move to original content and programming would be the next logical step.

If you were to ask Long Island advertising agencies about original content, they would be able to attest to its value. In recent years, Netflix has been able to define itself by the programs that can't be seen anywhere else. "Daredevil," "Stranger Things" and "GLOW" have become some of the more popular shows that the aforementioned streaming service brought to the masses. According to companies like fishbat, if content performs, the places that distribute it benefit.

While LinkedIn says that there are no concrete plans to move into the original content realm, the benefits of doing so are numerous. Not only would this be able to attract a new audience, but it would keep existing users around for longer. They would become engrossed in the social network itself, thereby creating more connections and potentially finding new business. We can only imagine for now, but the idea of original video on LinkedIn is an intriguing one.
